Dr. Bonila holds a Masters Degree in Botany with a specialization in Plant Pathology and Ph.D in Genetics and Plant Breeding. She has 29 years of experience in teaching and started her career at the Christian Eminent School, Indore where she was the HOD for Sciences. Her journey with IB started at Victorious Kidss Educares, an IB World School in 2006 where she was part of the core team for Pre-authorization, Authorization and Evaluation for PYP, MYP and DP. She worked as MYP Coordinator, ATL (Approaches to Learning) Coordinator and IDU (Interdisciplinary Unit) Coordinator from 2007 to 2013. From 2014 to 2018 she worked as DP Coordinator, Biology, ESS teacher and was in charge of Group four Project. From 2018-2021 she headed the Diploma Programme. She is an examiner for the IBDP Biology.

Her role involved managing change through school development initiatives along with transitioning from the national curriculum to the international curriculum and spearheading professional development of staff and community development projects.

Bonila is an enthusiastic pedagogical leader and lifelong learner, who is passionate about developing learners into successful, responsible global citizens. She finds teaching young adults as an interesting, invigorating, rewarding and an often-challenging experience. She believes that to be a successful teacher to students of this age, one must demonstrate a sincere and honest commitment to the profession. She is passionate about her role and her subjects and hopes to enthuse her students to become lifelong learners.

Even after many years of being in this profession, her love for this profession has only increased and she feels she has grown with every experience. Her current inspiration is a quote by Einstein (that has a direct impact on how learning should take place): “I am enough of an artist to draw freely upon my imagination. Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world.”

She strives to implement a constructivist and inquiry-based learning approach in her class, which challenges students to think critically, ask relevant questions, connect ideas and eventually become independent learners. She believes in flipped classrooms, where students take responsibility of their own learning by engaging with the problems, working collaboratively, learning from peers and evaluating their own progress with minimal intervention from the teacher. In her experience such an environment has always proved to provide the most conducive world of learning.
